T S Eliot Edit

The T S Eliot Edit.

'April is the cruellest month'

‘April is the cruellest month’

‘April is the cruellest month, …’

On April 1st, this blog will publish edited versions of the first page of each of the ten T S Eliot Prize 2012 poets, all of whom were shortlisted for the best collection of poetry published in 2012.

Ezra Pound edited out the whole first page of the Wasteland manuscript so that it began with ‘April is the cruellest month, …’

We take the first page of each shortlisted collection and edit it.

The Rules

We only remove things; words, punctuation, spaces, line breaks, single letters from within words. Nothing can be added.

‘A poem is never finished, only abandoned.’ (Paul Valery, 1871-1945)
